The Master's programme "Geography: Society - Environment - Future" (GUZ) offers excellent conditions for the scientific study of current and future societal challenges and the acquisition of project-oriented and practice-relevant skills. The core of the degree programme is the examination of ecological, economic and social processes from a spatial perspective, their mutual relationships and the possibilities to act responsibly and future-oriented in response to current and expected developments. The content of the courses in GUZ moves within the triangle of society, environment and future.

Not every lecture deals with all three areas, but at least with two of the three profile elements of the study programme. As a student in the GUZ Master's programme, you can pursue your interests and develop individual focal points. You can choose from a wide range of human geography, physical geography and integrative courses. On the basis of concrete questions, not only basic subject content and processes are taught, but also the specialist language and methodological approaches of the different fields.

At the very centre of the programme is an interdisciplinary course of study with elements of natural and social sciences, which at the same time allows sufficient room for individual specialisation. The integrative introduction, the methodological modules and the one-year study project are of particular importance.

A key feature of the degree programme is its future orientation. During your studies, you will engage analytically and critically with urgent societal challenges on the basis of innovative concepts and methods. This will enable you to better understand changes in society-environment systems in your future professional field and to shape them more sustainably. This requires that you acquire and deepen your knowledge of suitable qualitative and quantitative methods, such as explorative procedures, scenario techniques or spatial statistical analyses and visualisation techniques.
